I am looking forward to turning 40 in the next few days. Reaching a milestone birthday always presents an opportunity to pause for thought, a pastime I’m more than happy to indulge.
As I shed my thirties, I find myself slowly, letting go of something else. My ego. It must be the gift that comes with getting older; you start to gain a different perspective of life, one that doesn’t require validation from other people.
I feel less concerned about being judged, finding myself curious to better understand intention and action, in the hope of gaining a greater insight into how we each experience our lives. Not only this, I have also developed a deeper connection with my core values, recognising how they shape my choices and behaviour.
Most importantly though, I have found my home, in the arms of my husband, a place where I can be my true self and be loved for it.
How lucky am I.
